If you are seriously interested in this car, grab a cold drink, as this description isn't going to be short & damn sure not sweet.
It all started 7 years ago with the purchase of a real documented 70 Challenger SE. The car was a very rust free southwest car & it wasn't cheap. But the pervious owner wanted & insisted on a good bases for an RT/SE Hemi clone.
The work started in earnest approximately 5 years ago at shop 1# where the car was stripped to bare medal & the body was rotisserie restored. The color was changed from code FF4 Lime Green Metallic to code FJ6 Sassy Green / Green Go.
The code V1F Green vinyl roof was changed to Black & RT stripes were added. All the chrome was redone & all the brightwork polished.
The entire body including the undercarriage is body color,
interior, trunk, engine compartment etc. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the top dog - the body & paint is a solid
9-1/2
Next came shop 2# where the steering, brakes & suspension was done, a brand new Dana 60 with 3.73 Sure-grip fron DTS was installed with rear disc brake up0grade. A big block
727 was secured & professionally rebuilt with shift kit & MP 3,500 - 3,800 rpm stall converter.
The "Heart of the Beast" at that time was a 472 Hemi with a late 1969 date code purchased for $19,000.00 * As things sometime happen "Murphy's Law" the Challenger left shop 2# do to mutual agreement between shop owner & car owner.
Enters shop 3# - which got the Hemi fired up, work out some belt alignment problems & installed the Rally wheels & tires. Do to another mutual agreement "Murphy's Law" struck
again & enters shop 4#
Now over 3 years has pasted, a total of $70,000 dollars has exchanged hands & "Murphy's Law" rears it's ugly head for
the third time & not the last.
Problems quickly devolope with the giant Hemi that was above & beyond the abilities of shop 4# - No namnes will be mentioned in this listing. But shop 4# bows out & enters
shop 5#
Shop 5# makes a valiant effort to correct the problem with the Rat Killer Hemi, but to no avail. Another year & a half
has now passed - plus another $5,000 of hard earned money.
Now enters shop 6# which is me, Dream Car Automotive / Restoration in Poughkeepsie NY. It was found that somewhere
along the long line of shops, the cam timing & valvetrain geometry was incorrect - causing the huge intake valves to
bang the pistons, drop a keeper on No#8 cylinder & sucked a valve. Broke through the cylinder wall into the water jacket.
This event, plus $20,000 of junk Hemi helped to push the owner over the edge. Not to mention all the years of waiting for his dream ride. He now hates even the sight of the car, want's nothing to do with it & just want's it to go as far away as possible.
Since I'm a "Die Heart" Mopar guy & have been for over 35 years, buying, selling & restoring Mopar's for a big part of that time - I took control. I found a period correct date coded 1969 440 steel crank 906 heads long block. The engine was professionally rebuilt by one of the best in the business here in the Northeast. Features a K-10 with plate .030 over-bored with match set of 11.0.1 Keith Black pistons after being Hot tanked, Magna flexed, Sonic tested.
The steel crank was re-sized .010/.010 & the block was Line honed. The reciprocating assembly was balanced along with the crank.
The 906 casting heads were treated to a complete performance
rebuild. Including new valves, guides & 3 angle cut. New valve springs good to 600 lift, retainers & keepers.
Cam is a MP Performance Hemi grind, one size over stock. Good vacuum & great idle characteristics. The torque converter was switched out in favor of a smaller 3,000 rpm Hughes stall converter for better street manners.
On top of this bad azz 440 sits a "Brand New" Six Pack setup from Herb's Mopar Parts with a brand new "Steel" reproduction air-cleaner assembly. Also "New" reproduction period correct valve covers & oil pan.
The engine is cuurently sitting on my engine stand waiting
for me to find the time to stuff it in, fire it up & sorted.
So basically you're buying a practically brand new 1970 Challenger RT/SE clone with "Zero" miles on a freshly restored car. Featuring at above mentioned engine, fresh 727 transmission, Dana 60 rear, "4" wheel disc brakes, with everything single part being restored, reconditioned or quality reproductions. An insane amount of money has been invested, but the finally the final product will be & is stunning. And you can buy all this for 1/2 the investment
cost & be the envy of all your friends & buddies.
